How is LASIK surgery done?

In Lasik Surgery, a laser is used to reshape the cornea to improve the way the eye focuses light rays onto the retina at the back of the eye, and the vision gets better.

  1. Before LASIK surgery, a 3D map of the unique eye of patient is created using a Wavefront analyser. This is done to know exactly how patient’s cornea should be reshaped to improve the vision of the eye.
  2. During LASIK surgery, the eye is anesthetized with concentrated eye drops by an ophthalmologist to numb the eye of patient.
  3. Then, the ophthalmologist creates a corneal flap on the outer layer of the eyes, using a device called Microkeratome.
  4. Then, the flap is lifted to expose the underlying.
  5. The surgeon folds back the flap and precisely removes a very specific amount of corneal tissue under the flap using a laser.
  6. The flap is then laid back into its original position where it heals in place.

  • Myopia:  from - 1 to - 10 dioptres
  • Hyperopia:  +1 to +5 dioptres
  • Astigmatism:  from 1 to 5 dioptre

Procedure Time: 5 - 10 minutes per eye

Results: Healthy vision (20/20) without glasses or contact lenses

Recovery time: A few days to several weeks for vision to stabilize
