Bronchitis

It is an inflammation of the lower respiratory tract caused by inflammation of the membrane in the interior of the lungs.

Acute Bronchitis
Acute bronchitis, a common disease, is an inflammation with a mild course that completely heals, and it is caused by viruses or substanses irritating the airways. It usually develops after diseases of upper respiratory tract with such diseases, including measles, whooping cough.

Its primary causes are viruses and bacteria. Factors causing damage to the respiratory tract such as air pollution, cigarette smoke and plume also trigger formation of the disease. It is more frequently seen during cold weather.

The first symptom of acute bronchitis is dry and painful cough. This is later followed by sputum. Runny nose, chills, mild fever and fatigue are among the symptoms of the disease.

The patient may be given medications prescribed by a doctor according to whether the disease is caused by viruses or bacteria as well as expectorant drugs for facilitating expectoration, and antipyretics, if s/he has fever.

Chronic Bronchitis
Chronic bronchitis begins without showing symptoms and this slowly progressive disease leads to airway obstruction over time, resulting in severe respiratory insufficiency.

The most striking symptoms of the disease are long -term cough and excessive expectoration which last for at least 3 months throughout 2 consecutive years. Patients suffer from difficulty in breathing due to narrowing of the bronchi. They get tired and are out of breath very easily, in addition to having wheezy breathing. They may develop a mild hump.

Smoking is the major cause of the disease. With age and longer exposure to tobacco smoke, the incidence of the disease increases. Air pollution, alcohol use and malnutrition also contribute to the development of the disease.

The first thing to do is to give up smoking and avoid exposure to cigarette smoke. You should stay away from dusty and polluted air as much as possible, take care to have a healthy diet and be cautious against colds. During the treatment to be followed up by your doctor, in addition bronchodilators and expectorants, anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics can be used. Also, correct respiratory exercises can be done.
