Mammography

Mammography is widely used as an auxiliary diagnostic test to determine the location and properties of a suspected mass found in the breast. Mammographic examination is performed using X-rays.

It is important to have a mammography scan for checkup purposes in women over the age of 40 once a year.

More successful results have been achieved by digital mammography which was developed in recent years. In both traditional as well as digital mammography, X-rays are used , but in conventional mammography, X - rays reach the film after passing through the breast. In digital mammography, after X-rays pass through the breast, they are detected by high-resolution electronic detectors and the images are first obtained in digital environment. These images are examined in large high resolution monitors. Thus, the review period is shorter and the image quality is increased, facilitating evaluation of the lesions.

Tomosynthesis
Where the breast tissue is very significant, digital mammography may prove to be insufficient to demonstrate the problem areas. In such cases, the patient has to have an additional scan. The radiation dose received by the patient will increase by each additional scan so this is an undesirable situation. Tomosynthesis eliminates this undesirable situation and it a digital mammography program that 3D assessment of the breast tissue.
