Ghrelin is a peptide protein secreted by the cells of the upper part of the stomach called fundus. It is a strong stimulator of the appetite increasing region of the brain. With the sleeve gastrectomy, the fundus region producing Ghrelin is removed, thus appetite is reduced, which contributes to weight loss.
