Pancreatitis can simply be described as inflammation of the pancreas. The causes of pancreatitis can be listed as follows :

  • Mud and small stones falling from the gallbladder into the bile duct and pancreatic duct
  • Alcohol addiction
  • Increased level of calcium in the blood
  • Certain infections

Commonly observed symptoms are:

  • Severe and diffuse abdominal pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Jaundice
  • Malaise and drop in blood pressure
  • Fever
  • High pulse

While treatment of pancreatitis was mainly surgical in the past, nowadays it is mostly medical treatment, intensive care support and surgical intervention, where necessary. Treatment is associated with severity of pancreatitis attack.
