Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome in which generalized muscle pain, sleep disturbance and fatigue are often found together. It is a musculoskeletal system illness with widespread significant pain especially in the back, neck, shoulders and hips. While the disease can occur at any age and in both sexes, it is most frequently seen between the ages of 25-55 and it is more common in women than men.
It is a chronic disease that doesn't limit movement in joints but disrupts a person's quality of life. Although the cause of the disease is unknown, it is associated with many conditions including stress, anxiety, depression, busy schedule, damp environment, sleep disorders, and prolonged computer use.
Fatigue, sleep disturbances, subjective feeling of swelling; numbness, dizziness, weakness are very common symptoms of the disease.
Subsequent blood tests and radiological investigations give normal results. Fibromyalgia diagnosis is made by history and a clinical examination.
According to the state of the patient, painkillers, antidepressants, muscle relaxants and sleep-regulating drugs are used to treat fibromyalgia. Physical therapy agents and exercise programs, which cover the most important place in the treatment, are implemented. Also, ozone therapy, acupuncture and trigger point injections are also quite effective in fibromyalgia treatment.
