Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women, but it can also be seen at very low rates in men.  One in eight women is at risk of developing breast cancer in their lifetime. In breast cancer, age, gender, first menstrual and menopause ages, number of births, low number of genetic factors play an important role.

The symptoms of breast cancer are listed below, and when any of these symptoms are seen, a specialist should be consulted immediately. However, sometimes the disease may not show any symptoms. Therefore, annual checks are of great importance.

  • Mass in the breast or armpit (stiffness, swelling)
  • Discharge from the nipple (bloody or transparent colour from a single channel)
  • Introspection, collapse or disfigurement of the nipple
  • Changes in nipple skin (peeling, crusting)
  • Scarring or redness on the breast skin
  • Edema, swelling and inward pulls on the breast skin (orange peel appearance)
  • Growth, disfigurement or asymmetry or change in colour (redness, etc.)

Early detection of breast cancer is of great importance.

Today, surgical methods are mainly used in the treatment of breast cancer, but chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy can be applied together or independently with surgical methods. The form of treatment is shaped by the degree of tumour, type of cancer, secondary cancers, if any, and whether menopause has been entered. Surgical applications are divided into two main groups as those aimed at protecting the breast without removal and those aimed at removing the entire breast. In the applications for the complete removal of the breast, breast reconstruction is performed instead of the breast taken with plastic surgery techniques.
